The Industrial Engine Business Unit of Cummins India Limited (CIL) has announced the inauguration of its new integrated manufacturing facility at the Cummins India Limited Kothrud Campus, Pune. The company has invested US $20 million on this facility and the products manufactured here would service major customers worldwide.

The new unit will specialize in assembling, testing and upfit of high horsepower Turbo Diesel engines as per customer requirements. It will also incorporate supply chain and material storage systems within its premises. The new facility will manufacture both mechanical and electronic KV series Turbo Diesel engines. Available from 700 HP to 2250 HP, these Turbo Diesel engines will meet the demands of power generation, marine, construction, mining and locomotive applications.

The announcement of the new facility coincides with the dispatch of the first batch of KV engines from the new unit. Inaugurating the facility, Anant Talaulicar, Chairman & Managing Director, Cummins India Limited said, “This is a significant milestone in the history of Cummins India Limited. Our position as a global sourcing base is well established. Our existing manufacturing plant at Kothrud has been meeting the global demand for K38 and K50 series Turbo Diesel engines for five years. With this investment, we have significantly expanded our ability to service global customer requirements. The new facility, built within the premises of our oldest and largest manufacturing campus here in Kothrud, is a state-of-the-art, efficient plant with global standards.”

Vikram Jaisinghani, Vice President, Cummins India Ltd – Engine and Industrial Business Unit said, “This new facility built on the Kothrud campus was put up in a record time of 10 months from the day of its ground breaking in May, 2007. It has been built to adhere to strict environment and safety norms. The new facility is expected to be highly productive and will facilitate indigenisation of new products to meet requirements of global and domestic customers.”
